When buying gifts for other people is it mainly the thought that counts? Can you buy people things they may not like in the hope that they will recognize the gesture?
If someone is crazy about all the music from the 70s would it be ok to get them a 60s CD or would it be inconsiderate? How far can you stretch their likes and dislikes?
The main thing probably is not to get them something that they hate otherwise it will go straight into the trash or recycling box. Also under this train of thought is not to get them something that doesn’t fit if it is clothing or something that they can make no use of (car polish for someone that doesn’t drive).
However if you go for things that you know they like or speculative gifts which are normally well received, then you shouldn’t have any problem when the time comes for them to open their gift.
